We are seeking a new Deputy City Transportation Engineer to evaluate traffic control for city and private projects. This position will independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in making substantial adaptations and modifications. This is a responsible position in planning, design, construction, permitting, and other related engineering work and may require supervising engineers and other subordinate staff.
About the Position:
One important aspect of this job is to help Salt Lake City residents by better managing our traffic control during construction. The engineer will work closely with a team of professionals to evaluate traffic control plans, review permit applications and enhance our traffic management program with a focus on better serving those who are traveling around Salt Lake City whether they are walking, biking or driving. The position will also involve engagement with numerous exciting city projects and review of traffic control devices within Salt Lake City. This engineer plays a critical role in the success of the city’s Transportation Division. This is a unique opportunity to engage with various City Departments to make a real difference in our City.
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering equivalent from a fully accredited college or university and possession of an engineer in training certificate.

This position is part of the Community and Neighborhoods Department. There is 1 Director of Transportation, 1 Deputy Director of Transportation, 2 Transportation Section Managers, 3 Transportation Engineers, 9 Transportation Planners, 3 Engineers (soon to be 4), 4 Traffic Technicians, 1 Traffic Control Center Supervisor, 1 Traffic Control Center Operator, 1 Senior Transportation Policy Analyst, 1 Office Facilitator, 1 Office Technician, and 1 Intern.
