CDC established the 2-year Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship to address ongoing public health demand for rigorous health economics-based inquiry through the recruitment, internal placement, and professional development of public health economists. Prevention effectiveness and public health economics assess the impact of public health policies, programs, and practices on health outcomes by determining efficacy, effectiveness, and efficiency using economic, econometric, decision, analytic, and program and policy evaluation methods.
CDC is recruiting approximately 10 fellowship positions for 2024. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in economics, health services research, health policy or policy analysis, public policy, or related quantitatively oriented fields. Fellows are matched with programs across CDC.
All doctoral degree requirements must be completed by 7/19/2024. The starting annual salary is approximately $97,000 plus Federal benefits. The fellowship begins on 8/12/2024 with an intensive orientation and training program. Interested individuals apply online at: https://www.cdc.gov/pef/ between 9/1/2023 and 1/5/2024. Please direct questions to: PE Fellowship Program Coordinator, 404-861-3882 or PEF@cdc.gov.
All applicants receive equal consideration without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, political affiliation, age, sexual orientation, or any other non-merit factors. CDC maintains a smoke-free environment.
Applicants must hold a terminal (e.g., PhD, ScD) degree in a mathematical or analytical field such as mathematical modeling, operations research, statistics, computer science, ecology, quantitative epidemiology, or other applied science field.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services, working 24/7 to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same. To accomplish our mission, CDC conducts critical science and provides health information that protects our nation against expensive and dangerous health threats, and responds when these arise.
