This position will provide and coordinate utility design with other staff and will involve working on moderately complex utility projects in a diverse team environment. The roles and responsibilities of this position varies based on the project and business needs but are primarily focused on sewer but may work on either engineering. As a result, this position requires candidates to have working knowledge of sewer, solid waste, water system and/or drainage design and work both independently and collaboratively under general supervision. Job Responsibilities
Here is some of what you might be doing in this role:
Prepare moderately complex engineering designs primarily for sewer Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) and prepare designs on sewer rehabilitation, Unit Price Contracts (UPC) and emergency response projects.
Prepare reports, technical specifications, engineer’s estimates, and plans using sound engineering principles, standard practices and procedures of civil engineering and asset management.
Provide engineering services in support of the sewer and solid waste system during different project phases (Planning, Option analysis, Design, and Construction phases).
Prepare design drawings and technical specifications.
Provide input to project schedule and Project Management Plans.
Oversee and monitor engineering consultants.
Assist staff within the Project Delivery and Engineering Branch (PDEB), the sewer line of business, and consultants on questions related to SPU’s sewer system.
Coordinate with other City departments or outside agencies related to SPU’s sewer system.
Work as a member of the project team, actively and effectively communicating with team members and other SPU branches, City Departments, and external agencies.
Coordinate and manage technical review comments from multi-disciplinary teams including SPU designers, SPU stakeholders (such as field operations and maintenance) and consultant designers.

Qualifications
Position Requirements:
Experience: Three (3) years of professional civil engineering experience; or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional civil engineering work.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology; (if no degree, candidate will need 4 additional years of qualifying experience).
Education and Experience Equivalency: Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment.
Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances and work in or near construction sites.
May be required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.

Workplace Environment (Telework Expectation): This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be required to come into the office twice a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
