The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department is seeking an Engineer II to assist in the operation of the traffic engineering section.
Duties include conducting various traffic engineering studies such as determining the need for traffic control devices, intersection safety and capacity improvements, reviewing subdivision plans, site plans, and traffic impact studies. The individual selected for this position will also review and prepare traffic control plans for construction activities and special events.
Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license desired. Depending on position, State and/or City certification(s) may be required.
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Provides design, review, inspection, and approval of construction plans for transportation, bridges, stormwater, and VDOT grant projects. Provides engineering consulting to various city departments in-house or by contract.
