The CAD Designer assists project engineers and project managers in preparing conceptual, preliminary and final CAD designs.This person will ensure that all CAD products produced internally and through third parties meet Ransom’s standards for consistency and quality to meet our client’s needs for effective construction documents. This person plays a critical role in the success of both the organization and the technical staff for whom they may provide both design and drafting services during the completion of assigned projects.CAD Designers are expected to provide civil engineering support and independently manage all CAD files on selected projects.
Develop and maintain CAD drafting standards for internal use and third party resource management.
Development of conceptual, preliminary and final design drawings using AutoCAD drafting software with input from design team.
Preparation of profiles and cross sections.
Preparation of quantity take offs.
Responsible for review of CAD products for consistency with established standards.
Develop master quantity take-off form for all projects and maintain this as a standard.
Work directly with project manager, design engineer and others from the concept phase to understand project concept, budget, schedule and deliverables.
Provide field support as necessary for project reconnaissance.
Review municipal ordinances and prepare checklist of design standards and deliverables.
Assist staff in review of State and Federal permitting requirements to develop a checklist of deliverables.
Assist staff in developing presentation materials for interviews and project presentations.
Prepare standard filing protocol for all levels of project development.
Attendance at Civil Staff meetings to present ideas, concepts, and designs for discussion.
Essential skills and experience:
Associate’s Degree, preferably in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
10+ years experience with a civil engineering or survey firm performing drafting using AutoCAD software and assisting with civil engineering designs.
Proficient in AutoCAD.
Proficient in Carlson Civil software or comparable design software with and ability to learn Carlson Civil quickly.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs including Word, Excel, and Power Point
Ability to create profiles and cross sections with given software.
Ability to set up and maintain CAD standards.
Ability to take designs from ideas/discussion to concept plans.
Understanding of grading, drainage and utility designs.
Preparation of quantity take-offs.
Ability to retrieve/obtain topographic data to assist design.
Performance of site visits and inspections in support of designs.
Proficient in GIS or ability to learn on own quickly.
Knowledge of accessing municipal standards for permitting and design.
