DEFINITION: Under direct supervision the Engineering Intern will provide support and assistant to the engineering department. Analyze antenna and equipment mounts on telecommunication towers using Risa 3D analysis software. Use AutoCAD to provide drawings for antenna mount configurations and proposed modifications to antenna mounts.

Interpret field data and photographs to correctly Input geometry into structural analysis program
Use company produced spreadsheets and drawings to determine equipment, wind, seismic, and dead loads to apply to the analysis program.
Interpret analysis software output to determine if existing structure can support the proposed equipment configuration.
If analysis determines existing structure cannon support the proposed equipment configuration, the provide suggestions for modifications that will improve the structural integrity of antenna mount.
May assist in reviewing requests for engineering services to determine that adequate information is provided to complete service.
Perform analyses on projects of all levels of complexity using hand calculations, structural analysis software, and other accepted methods.
Work with Designer staff on the development of modification drawings.
May assist with design modification for tower reinforcing, extensions and foundations.
Assist in generating required engineering reports.
Keep abreast of new technical methods and development related to tower engineering.
May assist in completing specialized engineering assignments requiring complex calculations
All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Self-motivated, able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests as well as collaborating with others to utilize resources and knowledge in identifying high quality solutions.
Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
Strong project management skills; ability to organize applicable department timelines and follow up with internal and external customer needs as needed.
Proficient with computer software programs, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Knowledge of AutoCAD software.
Ability and interest in performing field work.
Most work in performed in climate-controlled internal office environment worked under normal office conditions. Approximately 5% of work is performed externally, on-site, outdoors, with exposure to the elements of nature. Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds.
Entering final year of Engineering classes with a Structural or Civil Emphasis.
