Description The Department of Engineering at the University of Mount Union invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant/associate professor rank to begin August 1, 2019. We seek an educator-scholar with emphasis in structural engineering and engineering mechanics. The Department of Engineering currently offers ABET-accredited programs in civil and mechanical engineering. Newly created programs in biomedical engineering, computer engineering, and electrical engineering will seek ABET accreditation after graduating their first classes in 2022.
Responsibilities Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate engineering education in a liberal arts setting. Industrial experience is highly desirable as well. Primary responsibilities include developing the structural engineering curriculum and labs, teaching courses within engineering mechanics, and participating in the ABET accreditation process. Willingness to teach in both civil and mechanical engineering and flexibility to teach a variety of introductory and general education courses is desired. Additional responsibilities include advising civil and mechanical engineering students, industrial outreach leading to student internship and employment opportunities, engaging in professional development and scholarly activity, and participation in faculty governance. The Department is interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity in higher education through their teaching, research, and service.
Qualifications Ph.D in civil or mechanical engineering or closely related field. The candidate must be PE licensed in civil or structural engineering, or have the ability to obtain licensure within two years.
