The Department of Transportation is seeking qualified applicants to work in a dynamic team environment that implements challenging and high visibility public improvements. The successful candidate will have to lead a creative and innovative transportation construction program that is currently recognized as the best in the Commonwealth. This position needs to have excellent leadership, technical, communication and organizational skills in order to performs difficult, but rewarding, professional work involving planning, organizing, administering, providing technical guidance and leadership to a hard-working, creative and experienced Division that completes major transportation capital improvements. The Department has an over a one half billion dollar Capital program made up of mostly VDOT, FHWA and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) financed transportation projects under agreements for design, utility relocation, right-of-way acquisition and construction. Work involves supervising and managing a group of team oriented professional staff; formulating the Division budget; participating in the development of overall policy for the Transportation Department; developing and maintaining of the Transportation Capital Improvement Program; participating in the creative development and implementation of County wide policies; and implementing innovative ways to engineer and construct transportation projects. This position includes direct supervision over professional/technical high level staff and directly reports to the Director of Transportation.
