The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), North America's largest public transportation provider, with over 700 rail/subway stations, tens of thousands of bus stops, nearly 9,000 rail/subway cars and 6,000 buses, is dramatically improving the customer experience for its riders, through the implementation of an integrated system-wide digital advertising & customer communication platform.
The Director of Digital Advertising and Customer Experience will lead this effort, crafting an entirely new vision for how the Authority communicates with not only its 8.8 million daily customers, but the world beyond.
Creativity, innovation and “big picture” thinking are essential to deliver a combination of real-time service information, routine announcements and emergency communications, side by side with commercial advertising and entertainment.
The Director will plan, manage, and coordinate an MTA-wide transformation from one dimensional communication media to multi-dimensional digital platforms that will integrate with the nation’s largest transit advertising revenue operation. In that regard, the position will manage the recently awarded ten-year $3.2 billion Advertising Concession Contract, overseeing the concessionaire’s $803 million digital build-out, and assuming responsibility for managing an estimated $345 million in related MTA capital and operating expenses.
Supervising dedicated and matrixed staff, s/he will work collaboratively with MTA NYC Transit, MTA Long Island Rail Road, MTA Metro-North Railroad, MTA Bus, and MTA Bridges & Tunnels staff on high-visibility digital projects that require solid business judgement in making high-dollar value/high-policy impact decisions.
Successful candidates will have a proven track record working at senior levels of large/complex transportation, digital media, or advertising organizations, and possess a vision for what emerging digital platforms can deliver for the customer.
Candidates must have exceptional interpersonal skills and will alternately work independently and as integral part of the MTA senior management team and Board to carry out this mission. S/he will also maintain excellent relationships with employees/staff, the contractor, and a host of external stakeholders.
