The Electrical Engineer III shares thoughts about trends, breakthroughs and concerns for all aspects of Electrical engineering, collaborates with Engineering Directors, the Chief Engineer and Managers of structural design, civil engineering, distributed antennae system ("DAS"), and site planning in developing standards and procedures, and maintains Electrical procedural documentation and guides. The candidate leads with creativity, foresight and mature judgment by anticipating and solving unprecedented and complex Electrical problems. The candidate keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting Electrical services for the purpose of being leader in the tower industry.
The Electrical Engineer III provides system calculations, studies and construction documents for the design of electrical systems associated with wireless tower and DAS installations.
The incumbent develops designs and construction drawings for new and existing communication sites of low-to-high complexity. Designs and responsibilities shall not be limited to; primary and secondary power systems that provide uninterrupted and generator backup power to the Company, design of electrical service for collocations and new builds, C-RAN (radio access network), Smart-Poles, Tower Lighting, Grounding Design, DAS designs, and Radio Frequency (RF) Interference, NIER Study.
Design, specify and provide maintenance guidance for electrical systems and components of low-to-high complexity with a focus on economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability. Act independently on projects with more complexity.
Develop and present technical training seminars to others.
Exercise technical responsibility required for sealing engineering work performed under his/her direction and within areas of technical competence.
Develop new templates and prototypical electrical designs.
Take on non-production projects and designs for innovating and preparing initial concept drawings and designed for new initiatives.
Review, provide comment on and approve electrical designs submitted by outside carriers.
Communicate with outside entities (e.g., electricians, jurisdictions, construction managers and general contractors) as required for electrical installations.
Coordinate with vendors for efficiencies, cost savings and specific training opportunities online or in person.
Work with project managers and construction managers to ensure work meets business needs, applicable codes and required standards of quality.
Design and coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance, support, documentation and testing activities to comply with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
Perform detailed calculations, prepare technical drawings and specifications, interact with internal and external personnel to identify and resolve electrical engineering issues and attend site visits.
Adhere to applicable Quality Control procedures.
Provide quality control review of engineering services.
Assist the DAS team as needed with designs and electrical engineering support.
Assist the RF team as needed with designs and electrical engineering support.
Advanced knowledge of National Electrical Code, latest edition.
Advanced knowledge of telecommunication site electrical requirements and of design/selection procedures for generator back-up systems.
Receives instructions only for specific assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions. Assistance is received on unusual problems and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.
Proficient with computer software programs, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
Ability to provide direction, coaching, training and technical leadership to staff.
Ability to work with functional groups and different level of employees throughout the American Tower organization to effectively and professionally achieve business results.
Strong follow-up skills; ability to organize applicable department timelines and follow up with internal and external customer needs as needed
Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively
Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast paced environment
Strong track record of building and maintaining solid relationships with both internal and external customers and vendors.
Self-motivated, able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests as well as collaborating with others to utilize resources and knowledge in identifying high quality solutions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field required.
Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field preferred.
Professional Engineer ("PE") license required.
Ability to become licensed as a PE in multiple states via reciprocity preferred.
National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveyors ("NCEES") certification preferred.
Minimum of 8 years electrical engineering design experience required.
Experience with the design and installation of electrical components on telecommunications sites preferred.
Minimum of 2 year experience with AutoCAD preferred.
Active member of professional organization or technical society preferred.
