CAREER OPPORTUNITY Assistant Deputy Director – Construction Coordinator

Overall management of construction activities and/or projects system-wide as related to or affecting the electrical and traction power systems of the Power Department. Department liaison in all interagency, MNR and CDOT project meetings representing the interests of the Power department.
Direct and manage the interface and inspection of various power projects system-wide performed by outside contractors and Metro-North Railroad employees. Ensure all construction work is in compliance with contract documents, governing codes and industry safety practices.
Manage all Force Account work with Assistant Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, supervisors and contractors as required. Ensure work performed is in accordance with Force Account estimates.
Develop and provide force account estimates, in conjunction with the Operating Capital Projects Department, for all Capital Projects utilizing Power Department forces.
Manage project scope, schedule, and budget including project labor and material costs for assigned projects.
Direct and provide construction and technical resolutions at project meetings for various projects.
Manage and perform constructability reviews for of projects during the design phase.
Ensure project material needs as required for assigned projects are met.
Manage the review of As-Built drawings at project completion for accuracy and completeness.
Develop and/or review commissioning test plans and procedures for system cutover at project completion.
Familiarity with the construction management of capital construction projects.
Familiarity with coordination of construction work with outside contractors.
Competent understanding of basic electrical codes, standards, and utility practices.
Ability to manage multi-faceted projects and adhere to deadlines.
Ability to spend considerable time at project field sites during construction phase and participate in off-hours (nights and weekends) project work activities or significant cutovers with sub-department Task Managers and their workforces.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak effectively in a group setting.
Strong ability to interact with internal/external customers.
Strong project management skills with adherence to scope, budget and schedule.
Familiarity with budget processes.
Possess project management skills to develop project scope, progress schedules and budget estimates.
Possess strong management and coordination skills.
Ability to spend considerable time at project field sites during construction phase and implementation.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and/or comparable PC applications.
Familiarity with the Critical Path Method (CPM) and comparable scheduling applications.
Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations as they relate to construction.
Must be able to implement and participate in Metro-North Railroad’s Safety Program.
Must be available twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week as required.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Engineering Technology. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education, and/or technical credentials to include an additional four (4) years of related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a traction power related position.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of construction management and/or construction projects preferably related to traction power.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing a staff and/or project(s).
Familiarity with transportation and/or railroad operations.
This is a federally regulated position subject to both pre-employment and continuous random toxicological screening.

If you are transferring to another craft, you may be required to forfeit your seniority in your present union. Non-agreement employees must have worked in your current position for a minimum of one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline. Along with a background investigation (including but not limited to, employment, education, and criminal history), employees are also subject to an internal investigation, which includes an evaluation not limited to discipline records and performance assessments.
